A MORNING AT THE VARVAKIOS AGORA
Personal Work // Nov15
A self-initiated editorial photo journalistic project capturing the atmosphere at the central meat and fish agora in Athens, the largest in Greece. This colorful, yet hectic space is the highlight of the market area and one of the oldest markets, packed with a variety of delicious, local delights.
Much attention was given to depicting the surreal atmosphere. The market is illuminated by natural light that comes through the openings, but mainly by the hanging light bulbs that attribute to a rare, cinematic, scenery.
In post production, the images have been treated with sensitivity and attention by highlighting the focus points and darkening the background areas. The carcasses are approached as design elements that create interesting shapes that contribute in the aesthetic result.
